Study the Foundations
Explore the key Scriptures behind each of the foundational teachings in Hebrews 6:1–2. Read them slowly, reflect on what they reveal, and allow God’s Word to shape the way you think and live.
Introduction — From Hearing to Practicing
A. Matthew 7:24–27 — The Two Builders
Focus: Jesus describes two people who both hear His words, but only one puts them into practice. As you read, notice what makes the difference between the two foundations.
Reflect: In what areas of my life am I hearing Jesus’ words but not yet putting them into practice?
Practice: Identify one teaching of Jesus you already know but need to put into practice. Write down one specific action you will take this week.
1. From Dead Works to Living Faith
A. Luke 13:6–9 — The Barren Fig Tree
Focus: The tree had been given time and attention, but the owner was looking for fruit. As you read, consider the difference between spiritual activity and genuine spiritual fruit.
Reflect: Where in my life might there be a lot of activity, effort, or religious practice, but little spiritual fruit?
Practice: Ask God, “What fruit do You want to produce in me?” Write down what comes to mind, then identify one area where you need to focus less on activity and more on allowing God to produce fruit in your life.
B. John 15:1–10 — Abiding in the Vine
Focus: Jesus describes Himself as the Vine and us as the branches. Fruit does not come from striving harder, but from remaining connected to Christ. As you read, notice what Jesus says about abiding and bearing fruit.
Reflect: Where am I striving in my own strength instead of depending on Christ?
Practice: When you notice yourself striving, pause and remind yourself: “I am the branch. Jesus is the Vine. My life comes from Him.” Then choose one situation where you will intentionally depend on Christ rather than trying to control the outcome.
C. Romans 12:2 — Renewing the Mind
Focus: Biblical repentance involves a change in the way we think that leads to a change in the way we live. As you read, notice the connection between renewing your mind and transformation.
Reflect: What is one way of thinking that God may be asking me to change so that my life becomes more aligned with His truth?
Practice: Identify one thought, belief, or mindset that needs to change. Find a truth from God’s Word that challenges that way of thinking, and choose to meditate on that truth throughout the week.
